Tulika Studios was contracted to research a new digital landscape, and art direct the new Canadian arts and culture magazine, Newest. This magazine aims to amplify the marginalized and unheard voices of our communities in mainstream media. The key focus while doing the work was to reframe design and traditional narratives around editorial composition.
As this magazine lives entirely online, the challenges were distinctly unique. Our task was to ensure readers were engaged and drawn-in while also being able to digest the content easily.
Over the two years we created two issues. First,
Rupture; an issue that explored the ways in which the pandemic affected marginalized communities. Second,
My Body and Their Work; the women’s issue that explored themes around femininity, sociatal expectations and dismantling patriarchal systems.
Newest is a Canadian digital magazine sharing stories that inspire a true feeling of national togetherness.
We bring new changemakers, thoughts and ideas that observe the shifting cultural landscape in Canada to one platform. This magazine will include critical perspectives of our national identity, celebrate its arts, host honest conversations about its complex challenges, and share ideas that help shape the future of our diverse society. Our hope is that our stories will influence the global community to co-exist in love and harmony.
Newest brings together bold new voices representing our bold country. It features everything from frank discussions to commissioned digital art experiences. This is Canada now, current and future.
