Tom Ford

Tom Ford commisioned Hugo & Marie to concept, creative direct, and produce a campaign for the launch of the brand’s 002 Chronograph Timepiece. The film combines live action capture with 3D motion graphics to highlight the watch’s titanium design elements and chronograph movement.

Using a game engine, our team constructed a model of the timepiece to be digitally manipulated in real time. We find that these models create a surreal sense of interaction with the digital object, something that meets, and can even transcend, studio-grade live capture. The technology’s potential is tremendous. Highlighting the watch’s titanium design elements and chronograph movement, the tactility and malleability of our models sought to establish a futuristic contrast to the evocative live action footage.

Concept
A surgical 15s edit draws attention while hypnotic motion celebrates form in a high energy, slow burn reveal. Light cascades over the face of the watch. Tension is created as unknown figures are teased, restricted, and restrained. Two bodies embrace in both tension and connection. Centrifugal motion and macro shots show the precision of the chronograph. Orthographic rotations and a compositional grid maintain a strict geometry without becoming clinical. Film grain is used throughout to create a painterly, chemical finish.
